Major Work Characteristics/Summary of Position

This position is a tenure-track Literacy Educator position for undergraduate and graduate programs. Responsibilities include teaching literacy methods courses for initial teacher licensure programs at elementary, middle grade, and secondary levels, and preparing teacher candidates for state licensure exams in reading. Responsibilities will also include teaching graduate level online literacy courses as part of the Master in Education, Literacy concentration, as well as the Ohio Literacy Endorsement. Courses are offered in the daytime and evening, and in synchronous and asynchronous online format, as well as face to face.

The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in literacy or related field (earned by the time of appointment), a minimum of 3 years experience teaching reading in K-12 schools, and a grasp of the underlying principles of the Science of Reading, Ohio’s literacy framework for K-12 schools. Additional experiences in literacy education (e.g., literacy coaching, college level teaching in literacy, or Literacy Collaborative) are preferred.

Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments and university officials via university provided tools and resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Terminal degree in literacy or a related field (earned by the time of appointment). At least three years of experience teaching reading in P-12 schools, and a demonstrated grasp of the principles of the Science of Reading,

Preferred Qualifications

Additional experiences in literacy (e.g., literacy coaching, college level teaching in literacy, Literacy Collaborative). Evidence of success in teaching reading methods at the college level and in teaching online.
