(Sr.) Commercial Transmission Manager / Technical Lead, Transmission Planning  & Interconnection / Transmission & Interconnection Engineer 


Location: Houston, TX - Relocation Assistance available 


A growing renewable energy venture focused on the development and execution of dynamic utility-scale projects (10+ projects around 2.3GW) is looking grow their Transmission Planning and Market Operations Teams. The roles are to be based out of the Houston, TX area (relocation assistance available and temporary remote work possible).

This division of the company provides business development, technical commercial assessments, and power system modeling support for the interconnection of utility-scale storage projects across North America. They focus on identifying optimal strategies for interconnecting storage projects to the electric grid based on curtailment potential, interconnection costs, system impact assessments, real-time energy pricing, and market delivery options.

JOB SUMMARIES: 


(Sr.) Commercial Transmission Manager, Strategy & Development Engineering
  • The (Sr.) Commercial Transmission Planning & Interconnection Manager leads the development & Implementation of strategic processes for project site evaluations in correlation with transmission capacity to ensure company projects are competitive
  • The (Sr.) Commercial Transmission Planning & Interconnection Manager works with leadership and internal/external stakeholders to grow the company's portfolio through the identification of optimal interconnection points
  • The(Sr.) Commercial Transmission Planning & Interconnection Manager leads/facilitates transmission power load flow studies, Locational Marginal Pricing (LMPs), and ISO/RTO system modelling (PSSE, PROMOD, UPLAN,TARA, PowerWorld...) initiatives.
  • The (Sr.) Commercial Transmission Planning & Interconnection Manager works with ISOs, RTOs, and utilities to ensure reliability and cost optimization during the interconnection process
  • The  (Sr.) Commercial Transmission Planning & Interconnection Manager works internally with the transmission market operations teams on hedging and FTR (Financial Transmission Rights) strategies
  • The(Sr.) Commercial Transmission Planning & Interconnection Manager advises on risk based Interconnections assessments of the grid - transmission congestion, curtailment, and LMPs



Technical Manager / Lead Engineer, Transmission Planning & Interconnection 

  • The Lead Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer develops & implements models (PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld, ASPEN, PSCAD...etc) for interconnection applications and packages
  • The Lead Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer mentor  internal Engineers as a Technical Leader in developing and executing transmission studies and analysis (power flow, stability, short circuit, reactive power compensation, etc...)
  • The Lead Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer leads project development initiatives including the facilitation of transmission analytics for active projects
  • The Lead Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer handles the identification of available transmission capacity at specific grid nodes to support deliverability status for distributed generation resources
  • The Lead Transmission Panning & Interconnection Engineer actively involved in the negotiation/amendment of contractual agreements with generation interconnection customers
  • The Lead Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer leads interactions with the ISOs and RTOs throughout the lifecycle of the project
  • The Lead Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer interacts with key internal and external stakeholders from investors to partners in the EPC process
  • The Lead Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer provides technical insight during the sales process of completed projects


Mid-Sr. Transmission & Interconnection Engineer, Modeling 

  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer facilitation of transmission planning power flow studies and economic analysis utilizing PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN, MUST, TARA, and/or PowerWorld
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer facilitation Develop and building tools in Python, SQL, and/or MS Excel that automate - the study process of analyzing output data flows from the model
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer facilitation evaluating production and interconnection cost as well as strategies for curtailment and maximization
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer facilitation monitoring real-time energy pricing and market delivery options


General Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering preferably Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • Power flow modeling experience with PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, MUST, TARA, and/or PowerWorld
  • Exposure to transmission marker operations - PROMOD, GridView, UPlan, or Plexos
  • Understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
  • Excel, VBA, SQL experience or other modeling/programming skills
  • Experience working with ISOs (independent system operator) and/or RTOs (regional transmission organization)
  • Working knowledge of Utility-scale renewable energy operations (Wind, Solar, Energy Storage, Battery Storage)
  • Solution driven “get it done” attitude, strong communication, and presentation skills
  • Previous experience working as a Transmission Planning Engineer, Transmission Engineer, Lead Electrical Engineer, Lead Power Systems Engineer, or Lead Transmission Planning Engineer, Transmission & Interconnection Manager/Director, Transmission Planning Manager



Requirements
