The Role

The Senior Manager of Accounting Policies and Controls (Sr Manager, Accounting) is a member of the North America Accounting and Reporting team that plays a key role in Accounting Policy administration and compliance. The Sr. Manager interfaces with corporate and regional accounting and reporting teams, information technology, internal and external auditors.

This position is responsible for the direction and supervision of Lumen's global accounting policies as well as the administration and oversight of Lumen's balance sheet account reconciliation software. The Sr. Manager reports to the Senior Director, Accounting Process Excellence and Quality Assurance and also works closely with the other members of the Accounting leadership team, providing key metrics regarding policy compliance. This position has a hybrid work arrangement and offers the flexibility to work remotely on a regular basis.

The Main Responsibilities

The Sr. Manager of Accounting Policies and Controls directs and administers the Lumen's global balance sheet account reconciliation process, including maintenance of related policy, operating procedures, and training materials, and oversight of the Company's balance sheet account reconciliation software. The Sr. Manager collaborates with various teams and personnel to ensure continued focus on timeliness and quality of balance sheet account reconciliations to drive improvements in the effectiveness of related control(s).

Key accountabilities for account reconciliations administration include:

  • Performs annual risk review and scoping
  • Maintains and reviews user access and permissions
  • Authorizes of configuration changes to account reconciliation software
  • Provides monthly reporting to Finance leadership (including the Company's Corporate Controller and Assistant Controller and Regional Controllers)
  • Oversees quarterly quality audits
  • Executes key SOX controls designed to monitor account reconciliation and manual journal entry policy compliance
  • Works closely with Lumen's internal and external auditors during their testing cycles to investigate and remediate deficiencies
  • In addition, the Sr. Manager of Accounting Policy and Controls is accountable for coordinating and supervising the Company's Accounting Policy review process. The Sr. Manager ensures appropriate organizations within the Company are consulted regarding accounting policy changes that may impact other functions or reporting (for example, tax, regulatory accounting, treasury or finance teams).

Key accountabilities for Accounting Policy administration include:

  • Scoping and planning annual accounting policy review process, following a quarterly cadence for execution
  • Identifying potential policy gaps and off-cycle review requirements triggered from accounting standard adoption or changes in business environment
  • Maintains accounting policy workflow solution to ensure updates are properly documented and approved

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6-8 years of relevant job experience in industry or public accounting. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance framework and requirements and U.S GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Experience with balance sheet account reconciliation software, SAP, and/or SharePoint sites (and workflows) preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Excellent management and verbal and written skills.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive. We're able to answer any additional questions you may have as you move through the selection process.
