Your day to day Purpose of the Role: The Director IT Database Administration conducts strategic planning activities for the Database Administration practice and responsible for managing and maintaining databases for applications. The Director IT Database Administration provides leadership direction for the Technology Services function and is responsible for driving the technical vision for databases (On-premise and Cloud), leading and growing the database organization, and partnering with internal business partners and security teams. Key Accountabilities: Lead process optimization for databases, hardening security, assisting in writing queries, and providing guidance on database administration best practices. Leads technical design efforts for IHGs Database Administration practice by working closely across multiple Global Technology Teams to collaborate on and drive database design efforts through implementation and maintenance, consolidation, project planning, audit/compliance, security, and budget governance with the intent to arrive at optimal business solutions within the constraints of time, cost and existing technology platforms. Leads a highly skilled technical team focused on Database Administration standards and best practice, requirements definition, and implementing changes to Database Administration processes, methodologies, and frameworks which also includes responsibility for people, budget, and outcomes. Promotes the Database Administration disciplines through the development of effective standards and governance to maximize the re-use of application systems and shared services and reducing time and risks in project delivery. Leads the consolidation and modernization of database architecture. Manages new project implementations for database deployment and data migration. Manages all regular maintenance activities, including patching, upgrades, backup and recovery, documentation, security, DR plans and tests, capacity planning, and performance evaluations. Escalates and resolves data system issues, outages, and complaints. Direct, monitor and mentor on methodology, tools, templates, standards, policies, and procedures. Lead all aspects of vendor management including selection, negotiation, dispute resolution, and long-term relationship management. What we need from you Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience. Experience Typically a minimum of 10 years of progressive work related experience with demonstrated proficiency in multiple disciplines, technologies, or processes related to the position. Technical Skills and Knowledge: Substantial technical leadership experience and a deep understanding of database administration and experience with complex multi-year transformation activities that contribute to IHGs strategic programs and projects Knowledge of a broad set of responsibilities including all database administration and database support operations. Extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience with relational and non-relational databases Extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience with On-premise and Cloud data and database platforms Experience managing 24x7 enterprise operations and database administration teams Experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and/or enterprise applications development and integration environment Breadth and experience of IT design, development and technical knowledge. Knowledge of technology platforms and interdependencies with hardware and software platforms used within the business Strong leadership skills as a change agent using influence and inspiration in addition to developing multi-disciplined work teams Ability to work across multiple levels of the organization from developers to senior leadership team members Ability to create white papers that clearly state the advantages and ROI for new technology investments. Strong process improvement capabilities demonstrating the ability to proactively identify problems and recommend solutions. Strong customer-oriented approach and ability to influence others to achieve outstanding customer satisfaction Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.
