Purpose of the Position: The Safety Compliance Specialist will report to the Director of Safety Operations. The position serves a critical role in CPS Office of School Safety and Security strategies by effectively ensuring consistency in safety operations across all schools within the District. The Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for conducting regular audits and deliver training to security staff. This position will support the Director in building and maintaining relationships with School Administration and local and federal law enforcement to ensure that all of the department’s goals are met. The position will ensure all team members provide high quality, professional customer service in all situations, including emergencies. This position will coordinate with the department’s other team members to ensure that there is consistency in operations protocols.
Supports in the process of developing protocols for school safety and security operations to promote a safe environment for students, staff, parents, visitors and community members.
Maintains a working relationship with police, fire, and other safety and security-related organizations to ensure their assistance supporting response to incidents.
Collaborates with internal key stakeholders including Network Chiefs and Principals and other teams within the Office of Safety and Security.
Support principals in the development of school-specific emergency plans
Delivers and implements safety and security training for security staff
Supports principals in the development of standard operating procedures for school safety
Conducts and provides oversight of the district’s school security audits and makes recommendations to enhance the physical security environment, including the management of third party vendors who may be brought in to deliver this service
Support schools in their annual updates of school emergency management plans.
Ensures system-wide compliance with school safety drill policies.
Partner with Safety Technology Team to recommend placement of security devices such as security cameras, electronic access control, alarms, etc.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related fields. Master's degree preferred.
5 Years of combined experience in safety operations and project management.
Experience working with the Chicago Police Department or other law enforcement agencies.
Working knowledge of emergency situations including lock downs, evacuations, and other high profile events.
Must have experience in security operations
Must know Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Possess knowledge of notification processes and policies for both CPS and Chicago Police Department
Is a strong communicator; speaking, listening and writing
Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License. If selected, must have permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured.
Bi-lingual communication skills in Spanish, a plus
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
