The Sweetland Center for Writing in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants with a Ph.D. for an Associate Director position to begin July 1, 2022. This is a 67% administrative staff position combined with a 33% Lecturer III position, which we anticipate will continue to be exempt from the Lecturers Employee Organization (LEO) at the University of Michigan. The Sweetland Center for Writing Associate Director is expected to implement and manage the broad day-to-day directives of the unit's mission as defined by the Sweetland Center for Writing Director and Executive Committee; collaborate in making key strategic decisions; assess, develop, revise, and implement academic programs and resources; develop, document, communicate, and implement academic policies, procedures, and best practices for faculty; with the Director, review Guidelines and Resources for First-Year Writing Requirement courses; with the Director, review and evaluate U-M First-Year Writing Requirement courses; assess student appeals and petitions related to the First-Year Writing Requirement; work independently to assess currently approved transfer courses accepted as equivalent to U-M's First-Year Writing Requirement; design, assess, and develop pedagogy workshops/training as needed for First-Year Writing Requirement course instructors; provide strategic leadership for outreach; work independently to keep current with significant writing center and writing program research; with Director, evaluate the Upper-Level Writing Requirement program and guidelines; as needed, create research basis for decisions about program guidelines, and revise Upper-Level Writing Requirement guidelines; develop, document, and communicate policies for the program; and manage the day-to-day instructional activities of the Sweetland Center for Writing.

Required Qualifications*

Ph.D.in rhetoric, composition, language and literature, or other appropriate field; demonstrated excellence in teaching college writing using theoretically grounded research-based practices at a range of levels; knowledge of composition theory and digital composition; demonstrated professional contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives; experience in writing center administration; experience working in a highly collaborative team environment with undergraduates, graduates, faculty, administrators, and staff; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent organizational skills.
