An advisor is needed at Albert R. Lyman School to work with approximately 100 low-income, first-generation, and/or at-risk students, helping them plan for post-secondary education and career. This advisor will be administratively responsible to the Project Director, but will work closely with education and appropriate human service agency personnel in the service area. This is a part-time (up to 29 hours per week), non-benefited position.
Responsibilities Identify eligible participants in target school.Orient target school personnel, residents and community members, participants and parents about ETS.Evaluate students with interest, aptitude and personality tests. Interpret the tests to students.Monitor grades, school attendance, and extra-curricular activities of ETS students.Maintain files and submit monthly and yearly reports on all ETS students to ETS Director, as well as students served.Represent USU Blanding Campus at target schools, acting as a liaison, and assist with registration for concurrent enrollment students.Assist as a member of the counseling center at the target school, including registering, testing, tutoring, and counseling students.Organize and conduct a series of seminars to meet the needs of ETS students. Act as supervisor at after hour activities and cultural events as provided for by the ETS program.Review graduation requirements and student progress at least once each quarter.Other responsibilities as assigned by the TRIO Educational Talent Search Director.
Minimum Qualifications:Associate degree in relevant field.Must have experience working with disadvantaged students in promoting educational opportunities, college admission, and financial aid.Willingness to be an advocate for disadvantaged students.Ability to work with parents.Ability to work cooperatively with others and accept supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:Socio-background similar to ETS participants preferred.Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling or related field preferredExperience in TRIO desired.
