Position: Sr. SQL Server Database Administrator
Duration: 12 Months
Location: 100% remote with PST working hours, Mon-Fri 8a-5p +/- minimal flexibility.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Work with a team to complete a large side-by-side migration project of 60+ Servers running SQL Server 2014/2016 on Windows 2012 R2 or 2016 to SQL Server 2019/Windows 2019.
  • Ensure availability, reliability and security of SQL Server database servers in production, staging and development environments.
  • Provide advanced level support for SQL Server production, staging, and development environments (some with Transparent Data Encryption and/or database mirroring).
  • Design, implement, and monitor disaster recovery as it pertains to production databases using SQL Server Mirroring
  • Secure Database Servers containing high risk data
  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve bottlenecks in database performance and SQL queries
Skills Required:

SQL Server Database/Admin Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server database administration concepts and architecture.
  • Skills associated with implementing database enhancements that improve performance and reliability of the system at the software hardware and operating system level.
  • Should be proficient and comfortable to work independently installing/patching or performing side-by-side migrations of SQL Server 2014/2016 to SQL Server 2019.
  • Skills configuring SQL Servers that run in a virtual environment using VMware or the equivalent.
  • Provide technical assistance to applications teams performing testing of migrated databases.
  • Install, configure and implement new database instances to support new or existing applications.
  • Should have strong knowledge of configuring SQL Server maintenance jobs including backups of databases and transaction logs as well managing fragmentation of databases.
  • Be able to perform point in time recovery of SQL Server databases and managing various backup/restore scenarios.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server mirroring and disaster recovery implementation
  • Significant experience with performance tuning, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and optimization of SQL Server database environment is a PLUS.
  • Strong skills and experience working with troubleshooting and resolution of SQL Server database problems.
  • Capacity Planning skills to estimating future resources needed for campus database systems.
  • Secure Database Servers containing high risk data using Transparent Data Encryption and Native SSL connections to SQL Server
SQL query skills:
  • High proficiency in SQL for SQL Server. Should be able to understand and troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues.
  • Skills using indexing to optimize database performance
General Advanced IT skills:
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates reasoning and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical projects as well as on a team of technical professionals and relevant decision-makers.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience securing SQL Server 2019 databases using recommendations in CIS benchmarks
  • Implementation of Transparent Data Encryption for SQL Server Databases
  • Past experience working with a team completing a DR exercise
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server Always On and implementing High Availability for SQL Server
  • Familiarity with MySQL Database Administration and/or Oracle Database Administration
  • Skills to migrate SQL Server on-premises databases to AWS
  • Familiarity with Linux OS
