About the Dean of Students Office

The Dean of Students Office serves students and their families as they navigate the collegiate experience through support services and resources committed

to students' advocacy, safety, and well-being. The Associate Director will report to the Associate Dean of Students and is a member of the Dean of Students team.

Job Overview

The Associate Director in the Division of Student Affairs is responsible for supporting the Assistant Dean of Students in the day-to-day functions managing cases referred to the Crisis Assessment Response and Evaluation (CARE) Team and providing support services to CARE Team referred students and assisting in addressing students in crisis.  The Associate Director will work closely with various key stakeholders (Student Affairs offices, Campus services, UCPD, Parking Services) and community resources to identify and develop numerous resources to assist students who are experiencing crisis. Some job aspects are subject to change due to evolving departmental needs.

Essential Functions
-Assist the Associate Dean of Students in managing services, needs, and resources for students in crisis
-Assist the Associate Dean of Students in coordinating
training and education with academic and other campus partners to establish positive relationships
with faculty, staff, and students regarding students’ cases
-Coordinate student learning and engagement opportunities outside of the academic setting
-Communicate and assist students, parents, and corporate partners to resolve questions and complex issues; represent the university internally and externally
-Advocate for the needs of students who experience temporary injuries
-Educate and train faculty, staff, and students about crisis management and needs of students in crisis and resources available
-Work closely with the Associate Dean of Students in maintaining maxient student database tracking students in crisis
-Prepare reports, disseminate/interpret information, provide advice, write proposals, deliver presentations, construct contractual agreements, and ensure that all programs and services comply with university, state, and federal regulations
-Conduct assessment measures to collect data to ensure efficient and ongoing evaluation of the CARE Team and crisis response
-Build and assist with off-campus and commuter student services
-Build relationships with campus partners and stakeholders, such as Counseling and Psychological Services, Resident Education and Development, academic units, and off-campus partners to advocate services for students

Minimum Requirements
-Bachelor's degree with seven (7) years of experience; -OR-Associate's degree with nine (9) years of experience; -OR-eleven (11) years of experience. Degree must be in a related field.
-Experience must be related.  Experience also requires at least three (3) years of supervision.

Additional Qualifications Considered
-Master's degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, Social Work, or related field.
-(3) Three to (4) four years of experience working with students in a college/university setting.
-Experience working in residence life, student services, crisis management and response, and have strong public speaking, presentation skills, and organization skills.
-Excellent administrative, as well as written and oral communication skills.
