Job Description


Position Summary: 
The Manager of Corporate Communications develops and implements a comprehensive communications strategy inside and outside the company.  The individual has the responsibility for enhancing and protecting the Checkers/Rally’s brand reputation and driving brand awareness directly through public relations, media relations, sustainability, guest relations, crisis relations, internal communications, and investor relations support.  The Manager of Corporate Communications works with other departments to execute consistent internal and external communication strategies that compliment/build the brand and ensure consistency of brand voice and messages across all internal and external communications.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy
Implement a comprehensive internal and external communication strategy and plan that encompasses all aspects of the business and ensures that all internal and external communications align with the company’s Brand Values, Brand Architecture, Brand DNA, Employee Value Proposition, Franchise Value Proposition, and Community Value Proposition
Manages all corporate sponsorships
Develop and communicate relevant key messaging and articulates brand points of difference to internal and external audiences
Execute a comprehensive, fully integrated and industry leading communication plan in support of company/brand and marketing initiatives
Oversee day-to-day execution of marketing communications initiatives, functions and strategies across all disciplines
Ensure that all system-wide communications efforts are consistently executed according to strategy and brand standards
Work with marketing team to develop and execute marketing calendar(s), strategies and projects
Work with digital team to set the appropriate tone/tenor of messages
Manage brand product placement
Ensure all internal and external communication is consistent with the brand
Oversee day-to-day public relations, media relations, and comprehensive communication strategy execution
Work with director and internal teams to plan and execute annual conference meeting
Media Relations
Develop and maintain a positive brand reputation and image
Manages all media relations across all company disciplines
Work with external resources to proactively develop, pitch and place communications in both traditional and non-traditional media
Serve as the key contact for all media inquiries and requests; oversee and approve all press releases and media communication
Use earned and non-traditional media to extend brand awareness and exposure of marketing and corporate initiatives
Work directly with digital team to leverage bloggers as a source of earned media
Lead media training for corporate leaders
Manage organic social media to enhance and extend the brand message(s)
Public Relations/Corporate Responsibility/Sustainability
Execute communications strategies within the marketing team, marketing partners and Company (internal/external)
Work with marketing team and operations to develop and implement communications plans for new restaurant openings and other restaurant/market/sponsorship events
Manage all corporate community relations, corporate responsibility/sustainability plans Identifying and developing national strategic alliance partnerships and cause marketing programs
Crisis Relations
Manage development and implementation of comprehensive and proactive crisis planning
Manage the cross functional crisis team including proactively identifying and planning for the top 10-12 potential crisis plans
Run periodic crisis simulations to test process, learn gaps and make adjustments
Establish a proactive “always on” internal process
Plan for and manage all external crisis communications
Human Resources/Legal Support/Internal Communications
Support Human Resource initiatives and communications
Support legal in managing issues with potential impact to the company’s reputation
Assist with messaging for internal communication including corporate newsletters, communications
Support other departments with internal/external communications needs
Executive Support
Assist Director of Corporate Communication in the execution of strategies to assist executive team
Manage weekly employee calls, and regular franchise company communication
Personal Requirements:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in marketing, branding, communication and public relations (restaurant and/or retail marketing and public relations preferred)
Mastery of communication skills, including excellence in writing and persuasive verbal ability
Comprehensive understanding of working with media, investors, financial media, including experience creating and managing large, national campaigns and all elements necessary to build and maintain a successful PR program, (media kit development, mastery of AP style, media list management, development of media contact relationships, software, etc.)
Experienced in writing for publication (news outlets, feature articles, digital news, etc.)
Experienced in managing direct consumer feedback (specific call center management a plus)
Experienced in public speaking and speech writing
Experienced in actively pitching stories to targeted media
Experienced in managing and executing organic social media/channels
Retail food experience preferred
Ability to inspire and motivate others
Strong understanding of branding
Ability to communicate with senior management
Experience working in a team/collaborative environment
College degree – marketing, advertising, public relations, journalism, marketing, communications, or English preferred
Knowledge of alternative communications/marketing/branding mediums
Capable of working with and rallying multiple departments/disciplines around common goals
Able to communicate with and train others
