We currently have a great opportunity as a Controller. This role is based in Lynchburg, Virginia, and reports to the Corporate Controller.

Job Summary

The HARCO Business Unit Controller (BU Controller) is a key leader of the HARCO Business unit, which has $75M of sales and 8 plants and distribution centers across the United States. The BU Controller will contribute to all areas of plant and distribution center management and will provide strong financial leadership. The incumbent will report directly to the IPEX NA Corporate Controller with a dotted line reporting to the Managing Director / President of HARCO. The BU Controller will ensure compliance with IFRS standards and will have a strong understanding of US GAAP. The incumbent will provide financial direction to the HARCO plants and distribution centers and will provide recommendations to improve site performance. The role will have a dual responsibility on the one hand having overall responsibility for the costing of inventory and analysis for all HARCO plants as the prime business partner for manufacturing & distribution and on the other hand, leading HARCOs team of accounting, accounts payable, payroll, production scheduling, and accounts receivable employees. This role will be responsible for all unit cost standard-setting, product cost variance analysis, the identification of any accounting process shortcomings and for establishing cost standards and budgets for all plants and distribution centers. This includes determining the impact of all inputs to the manufacturing process within the guidelines provided by the IPEX NA Corporate Controller and the IPEX NA Assistant Controller. The incumbent will be responsible for the payback, value and rate of return financial analysis of all operational productivity investments and for completing scenario and cost simulations to support both manufacturing and sales to determine the impact of changing conditions for better decision-making.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage a team of 5-10 employees while controlling the finance areas of accounting, accounts payable, payroll, production scheduling, and accounts receivable, including performance evaluation and establishing development plans to improve their performance or promote them to the next level.
  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, G/L, Inventory/Cost Accounting and Revenue Recognition.
  • Estimate product costs to support quoting activities.
  • Manage month-end closing and prepare monthly financial statements and other operational reports for site and for consolidation/reporting team
  • Collaboratively work with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure the reporting expectations are clearly defined and understood. Must work across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant, distribution center and corporate objectives
  • Collaborates with General Manager, Corporate Controller, finance team and senior management to explain results, make improvements, manage projects, identify inefficiencies, understand business unit operations and lead to the development of complex analysis
  • Review and approval of journal entries and adjustments affecting our financial statements.
  • Organize and validate operational information (financial, scope, risk, performance, quality) and compile regular reports
  • Responsibility for coordination of inventory monthly counts of raw material, packaging & components, including ensuring a proper cycle counting process. Will also participate in the once annual inventory counting process with our external auditors.
  • Oversee, identify and resolve deviations including material usage variances, conversion variances, and purchase price variances.
  • Monitor performance and determine improvement areas using key performance indicators for successful manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct cost variance analysis against established standards and identify and report major variances.
  • Recommend corrective actions to resolve manufacturing issues identified in the cost and variance analysis.
  • Complete ad hoc assignments to support manufacturing operations.
  • Establish the proper standards for unit production costs, determine the quarterly forecast and prepare reports and presentations related to manufacturing performance.
  • Create and execute internal controls for better control of manufacturing and distribution costs and assure controls are implemented efficiently while cooperating with the IPEX NA corporate administrative control department. Monitor and implement plant and distribution center internal controls (in conjunction with corporate policies) as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets, and identify risks.
  • Ensure that projected Cash Flows of all major manufacturing productivity projects are developed, forecasted, maintained and provided to the Capital Investment Committee.
  • Will also approve high level Purchase Orders for manufacturing.
  • Ensure financial information accuracy for all manufacturing and distribution costs and unit costs.
  • Ensure alignment with the Aliaxis Accounting Manual and International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS).
  • Ensure continual update of educational proficiency according to changing IFRS standards and ensure continuous training and development for accounting professionals reporting to the incumbent.

Key Relationships:

  • Offer direct financial communication with the HARCO General Manager/President, the IPEX Corporate controller, assistant corporate controller, assistant corporate controller costing, plant managers, operations directors, distribution center managers, internal accounting/costing department, internal purchasing/procurement, plant project managers and upper management
  • Collaboratively work with all internal and external stakeholders

  • Working Conditions:

  • Nearly always work indoors in corporate office environment with long periods of sitting

  • Travel:

  • Employee will be required to travel 20% of the time
  • Employee may need to occasionally visit other HARCO locations
  • Requirements

    • CPA Designation
    • 10 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Experience working within a global and matrix setting
    • Proficiency with PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.
    • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
    • Cost accounting experience
    • Demonstrated expertise ACCPAC, IBM TM1, is a plus
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
    • A demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information at all times.
    • A reputation for being self-driven, resourceful and able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent leadership, proactive and self-motivated; excellent planning / organizational skills, and detail-orientation are all essential.
